Mike and Vicki began learning about jewelry making as students at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois. The art programs offered in the 1970s were second to none. After completing all of the art classes offered, by senior year Mike was assisting the teacher in the jewelry classes, where Vicki was a student. As a senior Mike won top awards for his designs in jewelry and pottery in competitions with high school students throughout the Midwest.
